Unit 2: Day 2

    Today, Students will review the Pythagorean Theorem. We will define angles. We will sum Triangle angles. Triangle classifications--Distance Formula.

Pythagorean Theorem= a2 + b2 = c2.
Angle: The amount of turn between two straight lines that have a common end point (the vertex).

    Distance Formula: Given the two points (x1y1) and (x2y2), the distance between these points is given by the formula:

Quiz

1)

Solve this triangle using Pythagorean Theorem.

right angled triangle

2)

Solve this triangle Using Pythagorean Theorem.

right angled triangle

3) What type of triangle is this?

Answers
1) a2 + b2 = c2
52 + 122 = c2
25 + 144 = c2
169 = c2
c2 = 169
c = √169
c = 13

2) a2 + b2 = c2
92 + b2 = 152
81 + b2 = 225
Take 81 from both sides:
b2 = 144
b = √144
b = 12

3) It is an acute triangle and scalene.
