Unit 5: Day 3

Today, Student will define the y intercept in math as well as translate it to a real world meaning. The Y intercept is the y-coordinate of the point where a line intersects the y-axis is the y-intercept of that line.

Example :

Today we will not only define it, but translate it to a real world meaning...
  • If there is no y intercept then you have to take one of your points and substitute the x in your points into the y=mx+b form then you solve your equation and that will be your y. When trying to translate it to the real world meaning use the information in the question ex.--- if the y intercept is at 0,20 and your talking about money the real world meaning would be that you are starting out with 20 dollars.
